March, 2010
Good luck to all our swimmers who are competing at the "Swimming Gold Coast Championships" on the 12 - 14 of March. We are sending a team of 18 along to this regional meet which shows that we are going stronger and stronger.
Our Annual Club Championships will be held on the 19th of March starting at 4pm. Please bring plenty of spare towels and jumpers. The weather hasn't been too kind to our swimmers and it is important to keep warm in between races. Volunteers will be required for time keeping, running of the BBQ, selling raffle tickets etc. Donations for the raffle are appreciated. Please remember that all funds raised will go towards your Children.
Medals and trophies will be presented at our presentation night 16 or 17 of April. The exact date and venue is still to be confirmed.
Telstra Australian Swimming Championships
The club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Isaac Robb, 14yr and Dani Koni, 17yr. Both have qualified to compete at the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships. Isaac will compete in the 50 Backstroke and Dani in the 50 Fly, 100 Fly, 50 Back and 100 Freestyle. These Championships are also the Commonwealth Games qualifying meet. This is the first time that this club will have representatives at this meet. This is a great experience for these young swimmers and we wish them good luck. Enjoy every minute of it.

Nerang Annual Swim Meet
The Carnival went off without a hitch (and if there were any, nobody knew!). This is with thanks to every single one of you.
Without everyone's great efforts on carnival day and without the countless hours of preparation that went into it, the carnival would simply not have happened.
It highlights the principal that when a team works together, a great result will come. To our super coaching team, your hard work with the swimmers shows in the results and also in the team spirit that is ever present.
To our committee, your preparation and organisation set us up for a great day.
Once again, thank you everyone who helped on the day. I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did, it was a privilege to be a part of.
Kind Regards,
Bruce Skea Club President

The three day competition turned out to be a great success for our 29 competitors. Every swimmer did a great job representing our club.
Nerang finished in 5th place out of 19 clubs in the overall point score. Well done!
A big thank you to the parents who helped out with the time keeping.
Congratulations Kate on winning the 5km open water swim!
Kate Brookes-Peterson overcame adversity to win her five kilometre Australian Open Water Swimming Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith today.
In a tightly contested women's race, defending World Championship bronze medallist, Kate overcame a painful strained rib cartilage which forced her out of the women's 10km race to record a courageous victory. In a sprint finish Kate (59:24) held on to beat 10km winner and 2008 Olympian Melissa Gorman (59.25)
This secured Kate a place on the team going to Rome to the World Championships. Good luck Kate.

Eyeline Noosa 1000 Ocean Swim, 31st of October
A few of our swimmers went to participate in the challenging 1000m ocean swim in Noosa that attracts some of Australia's top swimmers. The conditions were rougher then expected from the usual calm Noosa waters. Nevertheless, everybody swam really well. Exceptional well, in fact.
Well done Kate, Amy, Ethan, Isaac, Katelyn, Courtney, Makani, Ben, Judah, Hannah and Abigail. You all did really well, considering most of your competition were surf life saving swimmers, who do this kind of thing all the time and only three of you (Courtney, Kate and Amy) have participated in ocean swims before.
In the under 13, Courtney Pierce took out the first place. Makani Luske was not far behind in 4th place. This is a great achievement for a first timer.
The results are as follows:
In the female under 13, Courtney Pierce 1st place (15.36), Makani Luske 4th (17.59), Hannah Robb 14th (20.44) and Abigail Robb 25th (23.01)
In the 13 - 15 Katelyn Bell came 21st (17.20)
The boys also did extremely well, considering the huge competition.
In the under 13, Ben Senden came in at 17th (19.07) and Judah Robb 20th (19.37).
In the 13 - 15, Ethan Robb 15th (16.37) and Isaac Robb 13th (16.10).
Kate Brookes-Peterson came 2nd (14.02) in her open event, beaten only by rival Melissa Gormann. Amy Brookes came 1st (16.31) in her event.
This goes to show, that the discipline and hard work of pool swimmers enables them to compete with the best, once they are in the water.
It was certainly an eye opener for our little swimmers. The team spirit was just fantastic and some can't wait till next year.
The event was well run and we all had a ball.
A big thank you to John for doing a great job looking after them, showing them a few tricks, taking them for a practice swim around the markers and generally being a great coach.
You can check all the results here.
Congratulations Kate! Kate Brookes-Peterson received the INTERNATIONAL ALL SPORTS TEAM AWARD for being the highest ranked Open Water Swimmer at the prestigious Telstra Swimmer of the Year Awards in Sydney on October 27. Well done Kate. Congratulations also to her Coach, John Papuni.
JX CLINIC
A huge thank you to the forever loyal and supportive group of volunteers who helped out with the running of the BBQ and attended the Officiating Workshop at the JX Clinic on the 25th at our pool. We were able to raise quite a lot of money on the day. The day was fun for everyone (apart for that poor soul suffering from a migraine) and it was a delight to meet Jess Schipper. Images of the day will be on this site very soon.
Swimming Qld Development Squad
Congratulations to Michaela, Ethan and Isaac for making the Swimming QLD Development Squad. They have been invited to attend a three day Development Camp in Toowoomba at the end of October. What a great achievement and opportunity this is for our National Age Swimmers. We wish them a great trip and a fantastic time in Toowoomba.
Open Water swimming
The "2008 Fiji Swim Festival" held on the weekend of October 17th - 19th, was a great success for John and Kate. They not only co-hosted the "Breakfast with the Champions", but also won the 5x2km relay which 8 teams entered and Kate won her 3km event. Not bad at all!!! We are lucky to have such such competent and passionate coaches who enjoy swimming and competing themselves.
Follow this link to see what Kate and John were doing in Fiji.........
If you are interested in having a go at an open water swim, then this is your chance. There will be a few of us going to Noosa on the 31st of October to swim in an 1km event. Please see John or Kate for more details.
Our next Club night is on the 11th of November. Remember to have your nominations in by Thursday the 6th.
September, 2008

QS is running a free swim clinic on Saturday the 25th of October at our Nerang Pool, featuring the amazing Jess Schipper and coach Peter Diamond, for JX Swimmers age 11 to 13 (those who have received a t-shirt last season).
